The Bedwell Company through competitive bid was awarded two contracts for the construction of The Cooper Medical School of Rowan University.
Contract #2 work included Foundations, Underground, Utilities, Concrete, and Structural Steel. Contract #2 activities commenced prior to the completion of the Architectural Design which facilitated and early start to the project in order to maintain an aggressive 18 month completion schedule.
Contract #3 – General Construction, included a state of the art 250 seat Auditorium, Multipurpose rooms, small group learning rooms, various type hospital patient rooms, and simulation labs. Administrative and faculty offices are integrated into the learning space. The project provided space for both the medical school and for research laboratories including a morgue and forensic anatomy research lab. The academic component includes The laboratories and experimental lab on the 5th floor and a vivarium on the 6th floor including all support functions and state of the art equipment, The Gross anatomy lab which incorporates is supported by a morgue and storage located on the 1st level.
The Bedwell Company provided development and maintenance of the project schedule, coordination of the trades and subcontractors, staging, hoisting, and the development and implementation of the mechanical electrical and plumbing above ceiling coordination plan. In addition TBC performed 30% of the general and carpentry work activities with their own forces. This 7 story, 200,000 Square Foot building has been submitted to the U. S. Green Building Council as a LEED Gold rated project and is currently under review.
