Penn State Brandywine Main Building Renovations involved removal of asbestos containing materials, demolition of existing interior elements, construction of new science classrooms and research laboratories including: general and organic chemistry, tissue culture, general and wet biology, amphibian and insect, and physics research. The project also involved general academic facility construction including: student and professional classrooms, student lounge with break room, and administrative offices such as admissions, continuing education, registrar, finance, civic engagement, career services, and Internet Technology computer room. Physical plant work included new heating ventilation and air conditioning roof top units, all new mechanical room equipment such as boilers, chillers and associated hot and cold water circulating systems, electrical switchgear, panels and circuits, sewer ejector system. The fume evacuation work required a state-of-the-art laboratory exhaust system serving 14 fume hoods and biological safety cabinets. The Bedwell Company performed the work as a single prime, with responsibility for all trades including; general, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection. This project followed LEED sustainability guidelines but is not a registered LEED project. |
