Bedwell was selected to perform as General Contractor for the 60,000 square foot addition to the Community College of Philadelphia’s Northeast Campus. The project, as many in the Bedwell Portfolio, achieved a Silver rating as designated by the United States Green Building Council LEED rating system. In addition to performing the work associated with the General Trades Package Bedwell provided overall coordination and supervision for the project.
The project incorporated many unique sustainable features including a 286 well Geothermal Field to provide heating and cooling to both the addition and the existing classroom building, an Outdoor Dining Pavilion which also performed as the storm water retaining basin, a non potable rainwater collection system which provided for the toilet rooms, cleaning and irrigation systems and a multistory Atrium which provided natural lighting to the common areas of the building. All lighting and telecommunications systems were state of the art to enhance the learning and teaching possibilities of the college. |

Upon completion of the addition Bedwell, through a negotiated change order, was retained to renovate the existing 50,000 square foot classroom building adjacent to the addition. Improvements included reconfiguration of select classrooms and administrative areas, installation of a Physical/Occupational training lab, mechanical and electrical upgrades, and an upgrade of all finishes and ceilings. Work in the existing facility was completed in time for the winter semester with select areas made available for the fall semester. |
